Here are this week's spellings. This doubles up as a handwriting practise and as a vocabulary builder. Please make sure that you can use all the words in context as well as being able to spell them.

Spellings

Spelling is a priority for us at Yaxham.

We have dropped the weekly spelling tests as they weren't impacting on the children's writing.

Instead, the children have spellings sent home each week which correspond with the Read, write Inc work that we do in class. They are to practise these by writing them out in their home handwriting books.

In addition to this, a selection of words each half term are sent home from the government's statutory word list. These can be practised in the handwriting book or, any way that is a prefered method for consistent recall. It is vitally important that they children know what these words mean and can use them in conversation.

There will be a test at the end of each half term on a random selection of the statutory words.
